    Frequently asked questions

We’re based in the Northern Suburbs, but we’re happy to quote and perform work all over the Perth metropolitan area.

Timber floor restoration in Perth typically ranges from $60 to $90 per square metre for full sanding and polishing, depending on the condition of the floors and the type of finish selected. This process involves sanding the timber back to bare wood, repairing any imperfections, and applying multiple coats of a durable polyurethane finish. It’s ideal for floors that have become scratched, worn, or uneven over time, restoring their original beauty and extending their lifespan.

Minimum charge is $1,200. The total cost will also vary based on the size of the space, the type of timber (such as Jarrah, Blackbutt, or Marri), and the complexity of the job. At Northside Timber Flooring, we offer free on-site quotes to ensure accurate pricing and tailored recommendations for your specific flooring needs.

If you only have a small timber floor restoration job—like a single room or a few boards needing repair—Northside Timber Flooring can still help, but there may be a minimum service charge to cover travel, setup, and equipment costs. For example, even if the area is less than 10 square metres, a base rate (typically starting around $400–$700) might apply depending on the scope of work and the level of finish required.

Small jobs might include fixing scratches, dents, cupped boards, or re-coating a small section that’s lost its sheen. While the cost per square metre may be slightly higher for smaller jobs, you’ll still get the same professional-grade sanding, refinishing, and attention to detail. We recommend arranging a free site visit so we can assess the area and provide an accurate quote—no job is too small, and we’re happy to offer honest advice about the best restoration approach for your timber floor.

Preparing your home before timber floor restoration helps the job go smoothly and protects your belongings. Here’s what you should do before we begin work at Northside Timber Flooring:

First, clear the work area of all furniture, rugs, and personal items. If possible, remove wall hangings and cover nearby fixtures with sheets to protect them from dust. While we use modern dust-reduction equipment, some fine dust is inevitable during sanding, so it’s a good idea to close doors to adjacent rooms and seal off vents or ducts in the work area if you can.

If the job involves sanding and applying a new finish, we recommend making arrangements to stay out of the house (or at least out of the work zone) during and immediately after the coating process, as the finish needs time to dry and cure properly. Pets should also be kept away to avoid paw prints and ensure their safety.

Lastly, make sure we have easy access to power and parking close to your home, as we’ll be using heavy-duty sanding machines and materials. We’re always happy to walk you through this prep process in more detail before we start, so feel free to ask

After your timber floors have been restored, timing is everything when it comes to walking on them and moving furniture back in—this ensures the finish cures properly and your floors stay looking their best.

You can usually walk on the floors 24 hours after the final coat is applied, but only with socks or soft indoor shoes—no bare feet or heavy footwear, as the finish will still be curing. Avoid placing any furniture back for at least 48–72 hours, and even then, carry items rather than dragging them to prevent scratches or dents. Use felt pads under all furniture legs to protect the new surface.

If you’re using rugs, it’s best to wait 7–10 days before laying them down. This gives the coating enough time to fully cure and avoids any risk of the rug sticking to or marking the floor. Drying and curing times can vary depending on the weather and the type of finish used, so we’ll always let you know the exact timelines once the job is done.

Of course. Modern or old, wood is wood and our expertise can transform anything of any age. We can even do small repairs on your deck if necessary as we’re trained and experienced in building and modifying decks.
